Texas Farm Bureau’s leadership conference this year focused on eminent domain as a top priority in this year’s legislative session, and the ball is already rolling in both chambers.
Legislation filed by Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, and Rep. DeWayne Burns, R-Cleburne focuses on areas where private companies seek to use eminent domain authority to seize privately owned land. These bills address:
- Requiring public meetings to answer questions and explain the eminent domain process;
- Requiring minimum protections in contracts; and
- Holding companies accountable for offering landowners less than they are owed.
